Today’s catch of the day

I have bemoaned the lack of casual outerwear made in this country on more than one occasion.  Most every sweater and fleece product made by the Northface, Patagonia, LL Bean and Columbia are assembled in such garden spots as China, Vietnam, Cambodia or Bangladesh.  So I was overjoyed to discover a new company, Montauk Tackle Company, that makes great performance fishing shirts and all kinds of other shirts right here in the U.S.

The founders of Montauk Tackle Company are first and foremost fishermen, and their garments are designed with fishermen and fisherwomen in mind.  If you are fishing, you are outdoors in the sun a lot of the day so Montauk Tackle Company’s shirts have 50SPF protection.  Reeling in that monster Marlin or ling cod is hard work and gets a fella sweating.  So Montauk Tackle Company’s shirts wick moisture away and prevent odors through the use of Anti Microbial technologies.  Given the paucity of American made outerwear, I was really “hooked” by Montauk Tackle Company’s 1/4 Zip Fleece-Lined Performance pullover.

I really think the Harbor Green is a great color.

If you are trolling for something a little lighter weight than the Performance Pullover, you should consider the Hudson Canyon Navy Scuba Stitch Shirt

Montauk Tackle Company also makes shirts that are designed to be worn in town as opposed to the water.  My favorite is the Light Weight Button Down Dress Performance Shirt in Storm Grey.

Montauk Tackle Company makes all sorts of shirts for women as well as T-shirts for men and women.

I have run out of fishing puns to use when describing all of Montauk Tackle Company’s great American made clothes, so I have to bring this post to an end.  But, I would encourage you to motor over to Montauk Tackle Company’s website, reel in some great shirts made by members of your extended American family and don’t stop until you have bagged your limit.  I guess I knew a few more fishing terms than I let on.  Now get shopping!

  1. I do hope that Montauk starts shipping its clothes out west. It is nice to see another U.S. manufacturer of polo shirts, their cotton polos are still imported but they say they will soon be made in the USA. I was intrigued by the photos of the cotton polos, they are entirely and extremely wrinkly or wavy, not pressed like most shirts are displayed. -Jack A
