Spreading the message, in a gift wrapped box

We are just through the holiday gift giving season, but I want to talk about presents.  ABC News urged people over the last holiday season to give gifts made by members of our extended American family.  I thought that was a great idea.  But I think we should do that all the time.  So, how about we all make a commitment this next year that we will try to give gifts that are Made in America.  And further, on the gift card we include with the gift, let the recipient know why you chose the gift you did, and why it was important to us to give a gift made by Americans.  To get you started, here are a few gift ideas.

For your friends who love birds, give them a bird feeder, hummingbird feeder or bird house from Wild Birds Unlimited.  Their products are made in the USA by various companies.  American feeders for American birds!!!!

Small children are tough customers when trying to find American made toys since China makes so many of the toys these days.  For young truck aficionados, the All American Toy Company of Salem, Oregon is a sure winner.  Young superheros in waiting will love a superhero costume from Baby Pop Design in my hometown.  Other children’s gift ideas are available at the wonderful Toys Made in America website.

If you need other American made gift ideas, check out my earlier posts on tools, clothing and kitchen goods.  The next time you need to purchase an American made birthday, anniversary or graduation present, you will really be givng three gifts.  You will be giving an American made gift to your wife, son, daughter, grandchild, niece, nephew or friend.  You will be giving yourself a gift because you know you have brightened the recipients day.  And you will be giving a gift to a member of your extended American made family because your gift you purchased allowed them to continue to do useful work, supporting themself and their family.  Man, that’s a lot of gifts.
