“Made in America” websites

How often do you hear someone say, “Nothing is made in America anymore!”  That sentiment is understandable given the huge number of consumer products manufactured overseas these days.  However, there are still an amazing number of outstanding consumer products still made in the U.S. and one of the best ways to discover them is by visiting “Made in America” websites.  I plan on featuring one such website every week and my featured “Made in America” website this week is the creme de la creme in my opinion.  Room&Board is an incredibly slick website for furniture made in America by a variety of American furniture makers

Across the top of the web page, Room & Board lays out nine categories of furniture: Living, Dining, Bedroom, Office, Outdoor, Kids, Accessories, Custom and Modern Classics.  Once you select a category, a myriad of additional choices appear.  For example, if you select “Bedroom”, you can select beds, mattresses, dressers, night stands, you get the picture.  Once you select say dressers, a hefty selection of photos of the different dressers along with their prices appear.  Clicking on the dresser gives you another drop down menu with additional info and a link to the furniture manufacturer who made the dresser.  According to Room & Board, 90% of their products are made in the U.S.

Room & Board is one of the most visually pleasing websites you will ever visit.  Spend a half an hour on the site and you will be convinced that you need never buy a piece of foreign furniture again!

About John Briggs

I live in Seattle and love telling stories about Americans, the places where they work and the things that they make. I have just published a book, Simply American, encouraging Americans to purchase American made products; the book can be ordered at www.simply-american.com.

  1. Dave Bruce says:

    John —
Two for you to check out, both local:
    — Soldano amplifiers, made right here in the Pacific Northwest — great tube amplifiers for guitarists
    — Mackie sound equipment (they’re local too, although I’m not sure where their manufacturing is)
